Instructions on how to complete book report are included here.  Also included is the rubric. Each student will complete a book report on an appropriate grade level fictional book.  While each student is responsible for completing their own book report, I highly recommend that students partner up with someone to read a book.  This will help keep students stay motivated and accountable. Reading logs will not be due this semester, so it is on you to ensure that you read every week.  Bring your book to class in case there is down time where you can read.  All texts included in "Mr. Valdez's E-Library" are sufficiently complex, but there are many other texts that will suffice.  Fill out the sheet attached here and indicate which text you will be reading and completing a book report on.  If the text you choose is not fictional or not appropriate for your reading level, I will ask you to choose another book.

You're going to go old school and make a mixtape of your life.  You will choose 10 songs (or more) that you would select as the soundtrack of your life.  You might imagine your life as a movie with different songs playing in the background in different years. Or you might select different songs that represent your mood in big moments. You might want to choose songs that represent your values, beliefs, or aspects of your personality. Maybe you want to select songs that you associate with the special people in your life.  You will not have to present this to the class. 
Your presentation should include the following: 
1. Title slide with your name and the title of your mixtape
2. 10 slides with 10 different song titles
3. A thorough description of WHY the song is part of your life mixtape (minimum of 3 sentences). 
4. Each slide should be visually appealing (not just white) - Choose a color theme, and add in images. 
5. Find the song on YouTube and share a link in the slide.

Write a PIQ response of up to 350 words, and no less than 300 words, in which you address a challenge that you faced, what you did to overcome the challenge, and what you learned as a result of overcoming the challenge.  PIQ #5 fits this structure, but other PIQ questions can fit as well. Due at the end of class on Wednesday, August 25th (odd periods) or Thursday, August 26th, (Even Periods).
