Parent Volunteer Opportunities

At Alliance Collins Family College-Ready High School, we offer various opportunities for parents to volunteer. Some activities are listed below, but our overall goal is to get parents motivated to become engaged in their child’s education, and ultimately gain knowledge about a post-secondary education.

We have improved the quality of our parent education program by partnering with community resources to provide a better program for our parents. We have had facilitators from L.A. Care Health Plan, Planned Parenthood Los Angeles, SHIELDS for Families, Southeast Community Development Corporation, and a special partnership with Los Angeles City College to provide parents the opportunity to take college classes at our school site, for free.

Last school year, 2014-2015, 100% of our parents completed the 20+Hour goal, and 53% completed over 40-hours of volunteer time. During the fall semester of the 2015-2016 school year, 50% of parents already met their goal of completing over 40-hours of volunteering, while 20% of our parents met the 20+Hour goal.

Various types of volunteer activities include the following:
  • Breakfast and lunch distribution
  • Field trip assistance and supervision
  • Fund-raising activities
  • Assistance with special events
  • Office work
  • Take-home assignments
  • Parent committees
  • School Beatification (Saturdays)
