and everybody what does DS thank you for being here this morning with us for today's presentation and updates on the school reopening plans I really appreciate everyone take your time into the morning to join us gracias por participar de Nuestra reunion de Padres para sobre la Escuela time flies all right Anthony if you could will just repeat yesterday and have you share your screen and that'd be wonderful thank you so this presentation is in both English and Spanish and I will I'll be speaking primarily an English we're giving everybody who needs it in Spanish the opportunity to read it as we go along with a person talk to you own Maria Del Tiempo in English. Aparted inflamacion en espanol Tiempo in English continue almost all right this is our agenda for today so we are going to give some updates about the reopening share with you some new celebrations that we recently received we are going to take closer look at are finalized Dollar weekly schedules for those of you who are able to join us during our last meeting it was there's been a big change in what we presented on July 15th compared to we are two weeks later I'm excited to share those changes with you and also go over some of our planning for the hybrid model and then r v a part of our agenda is to go over our top priorities for the 2021 school year and just some reminders of some orientation days although we're almost we're down to the last day of them right now and we will also end our session today with an opportunity for parents to comment or ask questions for clarification and at the end of this presentation you will be able to access this PowerPoint on our school website because it is a lot of information is taken this is a reminder that on Monday July 13th Valley Unified along with Alliance announced that the start of the school year would be 100% virtual that continues to be the case today so as I mentioned we're going to start virtually at Alliance just like Ellie unified and we are going to do this for a. From August 12th to September 11th however by September 4th we will notify families whether or not we are going to continue further with our 100% virtual model or if we will make the transition to go into a virtual model in the meantime please complete all surveys some of the next step some of this information will look familiar to those who were at our presentation July 15th but we do have some new information it's important that during this time that you just keep a close watch on your emails and text messages coming through to inform you of any new news because it comes in quickly and if you have questions you can go directly to me you can go to Jonathan Barrera or Betsy salatas well email is the best way to reach us during this time new information since our last meeting on that following Friday the 17th of July Gavin Newsom announced that schools can only physically reopen when they meet a certain criteria and they stay within that criteria for a 14-day. So unsure play what that means is we're not exactly sure when we'll be off a watch list in able to physically reopen at this time it's too soon to tell and we're going to take a look at what that covers so as you can see here this is the criteria for the state's watch list and it's showing here in Red 2 areas where we are not meeting the state's criteria for being able to reopen physically for students and staff be on campus so those two areas are the case rates 100000 people and also the percent of positive results for covid-19 so as you can see we're well above 100 or the case ring and a little above 8% this is the start of summarize a little history as to where we been throughout this process with the state's watch list . also it reiterates what I just shared and bold with you right in the center the two criteria that we are 's Abyss watch list right now we sure hope that we don't get another stay-at-home order throughout this process but unfortunately we really just don't know what the future holds it's been an interesting four months let's take a look over here this is exciting is always important to pause and reflect on our celebration we shared several the celebrations with you last meeting we have some new ones that came in these are all of our AP course offerings on since this flight is not in Spanish I'll do a quick run-through of horses that we have Arte calculo de matematica ciencias de computadoras en espanol politicos gobierno De Los Estados unidos story of the ammonia so in all of these areas we did really well in our really really local time the bean and a pandemic that really shows what are Scholars and teachers were capable of doing and such a difficult time to be doing AP testing in the first time ever having to do them all online but I'm very very excited to share with you that we have snow the new school records that came out of it so that's a real Testament everybody's strength and commitment to their academics and what that means is when you look at a number like a hundred percent of Spanish Literature and culture pass 100% of those students that took that course are now having college credit that's a really wonderful set of results to share with all due today so now we're going to look at our scholar weekly schedules and we're going to have first go over some context for everyone to understand what we designed it based off of we have new laws I'm in the play one of them is called ab77 which will go over shortly and then we have guidance coming in directly from the California Department of Education on the short version guy dances that we need to create more opportunities for alive interaction between teachers and Scholars live not in person but live as in going into Zoom meetings and interacting as if it were like a regular classroom setting we're going to show you a little bit of what that looks like first the summary on ab77 so you have an understanding of a framework we had to adhere to the short version of it is each day must add up to 140 destruction of minutes and I can include advisory within that time the emphasis is on placing the majority of it to fall on synchronous learning opportunities touchpoints at least one life at some point during each day so it can be as minimal as an advisory class or as extensive as the actual classes on a scholar schedule in addition it takes some consideration independent working time that is essential for our Scholars there's some key terms that are going to really help you understand weekly schedule so there are three key terms first one is asynchronous the second one is synchronous and then third last one is independent work brief overview of each about a synchronous are generally videos that are posted to Google Classroom we are encouraging our Scholars to wash those at a specific time however if there are constraints they still the flexibility just like they did in the previous distance learning. She watched those at a different time so that is something sort of similar to last spring what's more new this time around is the addition of synchronous sessions in the consistency in which they will be implemented across our kids schedule those are going to be Zoom meetings where teachers and Scholars interact as if they're in a regular classroom then finally being areas on their schedule noted for independent work time this is now a summary of the week so you have Monday and Tuesday students watch lessons Wednesday Thursday engagement Zoom meetings for guided practice and support on the lesson so the backup on that Monday and Tuesday respect teachers modeling what is expected for Scholars to do by the end of the week by the following Monday and then on Wednesday and Thursday they have an opportunity to get more support from the teacher or any areas of Fusion that might have come across on Monday and Tuesday writing is that day for everybody to buckle down it's that day for students to devote a majority their time to independent practice to work out the problems on there best they can however if they need to call to phone a lifeliner get support the teachers will have time for them whether that's one-on-one or small-group and done through a live chat finally Monday mornings are when we're asking our Scholars to turn in assignments a little bit of a change from last bring a lot of them where do you on Fridays this gives a little bit more time we're trying to be mindful of the fact that they're going to have more one way to kind of look at it as you can expect there to be one assignment her week or class and potentially to work change from 3 and 1/2 to 4 hours on each assignment and it's such a scholar schedule 5 to 6 classes could be anywhere from 20 to 24 hours of work time throughout an entire week which includes watch videos lessons and assisting sorry attending to be zooming look at the schedule this is zooming in on what occurs on Mondays and Tuesdays we're going to walk through it together as if we were a student let's just look at Monday it'll be easier on everybody however Monday is an example for our everyday starts at the very beginning in that we're asking Monday through Friday are Scholars complete the attendance form they really really got that practice down well last spring so that should be one of her easier steps in the day then there is advisory starting at 9 a.m. I want to draw your attention to that the actual live meetings in school day starts later than it did last year 9 a.m. when there's advisory advisory at 9:30 they go to watch the lesson for math which will be posted on a Google classroom watching the lesson will be asynchronous meaning to students need to log in and see it online where is advisory that's a live meeting synchronous and blue 9s I just wanted you to make this thing should between both those situations in between each class math English and Spanish or resource lab there are brakes work on a brain breaks will provide a number of ways in which Scholars might want to use that time when there is snacking or or engaging in some sort of Fitness or meditation or anything too sore to take a break between the heavy-lift of being in front of a screen more than usual and having to do a lot more virtual work the day ends at 4 but remember it's 2 9 when it ends up for there is the optional participation in after-school All-Stars program so should someone be looking for in Richmond opportunities to also the day and mix it out from academics that is going to be an opportunity for them Monday through Friday Tuesday repeat everything you see happening on Monday just with their other classes so if a scholar has six classes and that's what this the sample of they will go into science social science and either an elective or intervention course now we're looking at the rest of the week did you Friday just like Monday and Tuesday had a theme Wednesday and Thursday have a theme whoever the day starts 30 minutes later there is no advisory on Wednesday and Thursday and the school day starts at 9:30 so after students complete their form for attendance now they will engage in a zoom meeting which is all live Wednesday and Thursday are lies and they check into each. That they have where to find the scholar with six classes I will do my odd periods on Wednesday am I even periods on Thursday and it'll be as close as we can get to simulating an actual classroom environment really a critical time that Scholars go during that time because that's the opportunity and the real first ones who really clear the air on any confusion they might have had from looking at the lessons on Monday and Tuesday we really really hope everybody after that time is done around 1 so I 130 take a brain break lunch break and go right into independent work fine so that is not synchronous it is time for when our kiddos will hopefully find some time and space at home to take their learning from the zoo meetings and apply it in a quiet place at home working on me Friday to be a mix of what you see on Wednesday and Thursday or to a lesser degree it's really about committing more to the independent work time it's necessary assignments completed and or be prepared for an end of lesson assessment there will be opportunities for office hours with teachers some teachers may require it based on what they on Wednesdays and Thursdays and there's also an advisory built into Friday morning advisory beginning and end of the week what's one on Tuesday is it another way to look at it you can think of this is like the checklist and it just walks through everything I just shared but it's summarize is it a little faster I just give that a 30 seconds for folks to review on the ground but for those who don't speak Spanish I'll go through it just completing the by 9:15 advisory by 9 Monday Tuesday Friday watching lessons Monday and Tuesday at 9:30 starting at 9:30 completing independent work that's a sign. these days and Monday then sistema sorry attending Zoom meetings on Wednesdays and Thursdays there's a little side note they're come prepared with questions and information to discuss during class that day then there are office hours to assist are Fridays as needed or required by the teacher work independently throughout the week to reminder on that and then big one on the end turn in all work by 9 a.m. on Monday the following week these are two different Pathways for each grade level we have a list of courses that you could see that on offer when you look at 9th and 10th grade what they have in common are the first three rows everybody kick some lost everybody takes in English class for the science class and then it starts to get a little different depending on your grade level of your needs to our 10th graders will have history world history letters where is the 9th grade they won't have a history course on they traditionally don't but they might have Spanish they might have a reading intervention course resource lab perhaps in elective Centigrade similarly could have resource lab and intervention course or an elective open 11th 12th grade 12th grade you have very similar pattern as 9th and 10th to start math English Science and History and then you also have the odd for Spanish this is where we see a little bit more of 80 Spanish occur in our 12th grade classes what is noticeable here is that you have art in place of a majority of taking science class however if there are seniors in need of taking a science class or expressing interest as a result of their college preferences in Pathways we will look into space for them to take a science class well the moment and let's read through the hybrid model what it means to go hybrid is that there will be some in person on campus we're the same person learning will start at Collins isn't going to start very slow and small just to ensure the safety of all of our Scholars and staff with a select group of individual students that we identified as needing the most support for these are students that may have struggled significantly during our first distance learning. Or have struggled fire. It also might just be Scholars Hooper their IP or real passport or have needs that need to be met better through in-person learning in which we will honor that is well weho to one day look for opportunities for all Scholars to come on campus in person but I do think we are a long ways away from that and we want to make sure that we go slow and don't cause any issues without anyone's safety along the way so we're going to look at our Mondays to begin with and we're going to look in particular at English mass and any intervention course such as resource lab BLD or reading intervention class so that shows you what that looks like the big question of the top is what changes in a hybrid model the actual schedule in time Remains the Same and that's intentional so that we can easily transition without much disruption from a hybrid model to a virtual and back and forth the changes in blue bright blue and it's showing that on Mondays we're going to have a select small group of Scholars we can only sit 12 in a class with social distancing practices and the teacher will deliver live instruction to those dollars the scholars might have only math they might have only English you might have both or they might have all three and I know you see Spanish down below but that's really in reference to is rrsp classes and intervention talking about our safety measures the three big areas are ventilation sanitation health and hygiene he's outline some of the details surrounding those three big on everything but it gives you the gist of what can be expected there so we are upgrading our air conditioning system the better ventilation circulation we are policy signage throughout campus to help guide behaviors around safety and social distancing we are providing a variety of resources for health and hygiene which include and not limited to reusable masks disinfecting wipes washing hands and so on this is much more extensive list of protocols for social distancing that are also going to be required we're going to ask that anyone having symptoms specially symptoms similar to they remain at home before even showing up at work or at school temperatures will be checked for everybody staff and Scholars upon entry into the building during it be in person learning experiences Beyond everybody will be required to wear masks if someone been a very very challenging last for months for everybody adults and Scholars alike and I families do you know the pandemic has been really difficult in addition there has been tremendous social injustice as a result we are looking to prioritize social emotional well-being of everyone work for anti-racist School and prioritizing accelerated academics oh really when you look at these and you read The Guiding questions that correspond to each of them not trying to look at these as separate entities but instead how we can weave them together and make the blue throughout our learning experiences for Scholars which include in the academic setting big Journey a lot of this we've gone over the remaining meaning is our 12th grade population at 2 and that's later this afternoon go back to slide this is fine I'm so sorry it's fine I just want to pause and give it a huge shout-out and kudos to our school operations team from Betsy Jasmine Jonathan David Anthony Maria I can go on our operations team has just been phenomenal and also our dean of culture audrianna is also been at the school regularly during this very very LG time and it's just a little uncomfortable sometimes to be at the school but they have gone above and beyond to prepare us for where we are today the safety features that are occurring on our campus and ensuring that are nice traitors have laptops I'm so proud of the progress we made we have placement test right now being done by our incoming 9th grade population and I believe that a lot of them had that access to do so because they also have the technology already robbed so we're really ahead of the game and we couldn't be there without our amazing operations team so please join me in giving them a huge shout out in your next interaction with thank you I believe this concludes today's presentation and gives us now an opportunity to have parents use a chat box Los Padres from a queen bed & Wesson presentaciones en Este momento
