Distance Learning Assignment 1 in Google Classroom

Distance Learning Assignment 1

Hi All!
Welcome to Day Two of Distance Learning!
You will be receiving communication from both me (Miss Eyre) and Ms. Martinez during distance learning. We will introduce ourselves via ZOOM today and tomorrow during office hours.

Office hours today (Thursday) are in ZOOM from 10 am - 11 am and tomorrow (Friday) from 11:30 am - 12:30 pm.

At the start of each week, we will post your assignments in Google Classroom. You can work on them whenever is most convenient to you, but everything must be finished by Friday of each week. This week is a practice week so that we can make sure everything works before we hit the ground running on April 13.

I've attached a Frequently Asked Questions document for you to reference before emailing me or Ms. Martinez.

Here are this week's assignments, which are all practice:

1. Create a Khan Academy account and complete the review assignments. The document attached explains how to do this.
2. Check into ZOOM. I've attached detailed instructions to this post. You will need to check in ONCE either today (Thursday) OR tomorrow (Friday). We want to be sure everyone knows how to check in and has the tech necessary for office hours.
3. Complete the attached survey.

We are happy to chat any time!! Send us an email if you are unsure about what you should do over the next 2 days or if you have any other needs.

Take a Picture of your Triangle Congruence Notes in Google Classroom

Take a Picture of your Triangle Congruence Notes

Hi All!! I have a minor favor to ask each of you. I am submitting a homework assignment tonight and I need to include some pictures of the notes we took in class. If you are able, I would really appreciate if you could send me a picture of your notebook notes on congruent triangles. I need as many examples as I can get from each class. If you could submit your picture as an attachment to this assignment that would be super helpful to me! You will not be penalized if you are unable to. My assignment is due by 11 pm tonight. Thanks for your help!

Due:

Meme Project Part Two in Google Classroom

Meme Project Part Two

Now that you have found a math meme, you will create your own!

Think of a way to present a mathematical concept we have covered in class as a meme.

You can generate your own meme using the link below, powerpoint, or whatever other software works best for you as a creator. Look back at the powerpoint of math memes for ideas.

Your meme must use a concept from our class. Someone who has not taken this class should not be able to understand the meme.

Examples of good memes are in the powerpoint attached.

When you finish, add your meme to the "Period 4 Memes" slide deck. It's linked here.

Due:

Meme Project Part One in Google Classroom

Meme Project Part One

Congratulations! You finished your 2nd quarter math interim! Take a second to appreciate yourself and your hard work.

Now that you have finished, you may use this time to start part one of your end-of-semester meme project. This project is intended to help you explain mathematical concepts in context and increase your wit--a very important life skill!

Your Task:
1. Find a meme containing a math concept we have covered this semester. Copy and paste it into a word doc.
2. In the same word doc, fully explain the meme and the math concept in the meme as if the reader has never done math or logged on to the internet. This will require a brief paragraph on the context of the meme (how is it usually used? what does it reference?) and a brief explanation of the math behind it. Why is it funny?

When you've finished, turn it in here.

Due:

Data Project in Google Classroom

Data Project

In lieu of a test of chapter four, you will complete a data project to analyze the relationship between two variables of your choice.

Attached, you will see the rubric. All instructions and expectations can be found there.

You and a partner will decide upon a topic and will be required to create a presentation by next Friday, November 22.

You will be given time during class, but whatever you do not finish will be homework.

On Friday, each partnership will present their project. A quiz will be given at the end of class on the presentations.

I've attached an example of a 4 project.

Due:

TURN IN YOUR PROJECT HERE in Google Classroom

TURN IN YOUR PROJECT HERE

Attach your slides here and "turn in." This is graded as a test.

Tuesday Classwork ~ Project Work Day in Google Classroom

Tuesday Classwork ~ Project Work Day

Hi Class!
I'm so sad I won't be in class with you today. This project is really valuable to help us understand how people make predictions; whether it be in finance, weather, sales, medicine, or everyday life! Data helps us understand truth, not just opinion.

By the end of today you will need to:
Turn in your data set as a table in google sheets. To turn it in, share a link of it with me by putting it in the google sheet I've linked here titled "Link to your data." I've linked my example sheet as a reference.

How to make a data set as a table:
1. Decide on two variables that you think are related.
2. Open the link to the google sheet attached titled "Data Project FULL NAME 1, FULL NAME 2" and MAKE A COPY. File> Make a copy. (seriously. make a copy. rename instructions are on the next line)
3. Save your copy, call it "Data Project ___________________,______________" and fill in the blanks with your full name and your partner's full name.
4. Gather data and fill out table (I provided some examples on the other pages in the google sheet. The first one about drinking and GPA, the next is about the stock price of Louis Vuitton, and the final one is about time spent on phone vs. time it takes to do homework.)
5. Once you have decided on your variables, you will need at least 12 data points. You may survey people in class or family members, search stats online, or use another method. You may not make up data. I will know if you make up data. Put your data points into your new google sheet.
6. Make a chart. I've linked a video here that shows how to do it. It is kind of outdated, so the instructions are this. Select the data by highlighting it in google sheets>insert>chart>scatter. Make sure you select scatter as the type of chart
7. Add a line of best fit. Right click in the area of the chart>series>check "trendline"
8. Write the equation of the Line of Best Fit and write it in the box provided in the template of the sheet.
9. Explain how you collected your data in the box provided in the template of the sheet.
10. Hit "share" in the top right corner and select "get sharable link" then paste it in the google sheet titled "Link to your data"

In order to get a 4 on this part of the project see the rubric under the assignment "data project"

If finished, move to the homework assignment for today titled "Tuesday Homework"
