This is a valuable close-reading exercise to hone your observation skills.

You are about to read a short story titled “Birthday Party” by Katharine Brush. The
story has been transcribed verbatim on Google Slides. On several sheets of paper, handwrite everything you notice and everything you wonder, slide by slide.

Do not proceed to the next slide until you have exhausted your notes with the current slide.

Take your time. Be as thorough as you can.

Once you have finished jotting down what you notice and what you wonder for the entire short story, feel free to then reach out to a colleague who has also finished in order to share your notice/wonder notes slide by slide. If your colleague shares something that you don’t have, fill in your notes.
